Camp Anderson Oct. 20th 1861 Dear Brother I received you rs of the 17th this morning and was glad to hear from you Thare has nothing of much importance hap ened seince I have writen last, The fair did not amount to a [1?] row of pins thare was nothing shown but a few horses and a monkey show a little girl of fourteen that weighed only four hundred pounds and the Wild Hairless Mair this horse was realy a curiosity hes skin was like indiruber and perfectly free from hair The most of the first rigement is uniformed and will leave in a few days probly next Tuesday but I am not shure Uncle John has backed out but for what cause I do not know Chester was hear to the fair and he said that his father was not a going but he did not know why Our Compiny has ben lettered and assigned its position in the regiment it is letter I and our position is on the left of the first battal ion being the color guards next to the Colonels body guards the most honorable position in the regiment I shal go to grand haven some day this week if I can get liberty to go but I do not know as I can I have had my picture taken and shal scend it out by Wm Booth for Catherine and you will please give it to her [tell?] mother if she likes this one better than the first one she can keep it and give her the other one Tell miss Landis that her boys are both well and contended We had an [crossed out word] excellent surmon this morning from Rev [illegible] Whipple and this afternoon we shall hear our chaplain Rev S. S. W. Greely of the Con grationalist church of this citiy The camp is fol of visitors this afternoon I think that grand Rapids can brag of pretty girls, they are as much a head of them holly girls as leight is ahead of darkness No mor at present as the bugle has blowed for seir vace and I wish to attend Write as soon as you receive this and give my best respects to all inquireing friends [crossed out letter] From you most affction ate brother Harrison Traphagen
