Benton Barrack Feb 2, 1862 Dear Brother I received yours of the [illegible] and was happy to hear from you I am well and harty and hope that this may find you the same, the weather is pretty cold here now but thare is no snow of any amount the boys from that part is all sound Albert has got over his home sickness the mumps is going the the rounds John Ackerson Edwards and Andrews has had them thare has ben a few cases of small pox in the regiment one fatal, but they have got it stoped now and have vacsin ated the whole regiment Thare is no prospect now of our being discharged if our Brigadier General [Granger] does not play some game to get out of it we will go to Kansas with Jim Leane but he does not want to go that Leane is the one that figuard so in the Kansas troubles but as for the privations of life so far we live on the top shelf have a good bed to sleep on, well to tell the whole we live like fighting cocks If I can rais the money to spair I will have my picture taken but you can not get any kind of a picture for less than a dollar and if I aint carefull I shall [run?] a shore before we get our next payment but you shall have it No more at present Yours as ever Harrison
