Ralph E. Stout writes to his friends William and Malvina that he is in Kentucky on the bank of the Ohio River where lots of entertainment surrounds him. He notes a small skirmish that scared the Cavalry, and details that Rebel guns and drums could be heard in the distance. Stout notes that he has seen hardly any women, although many men, horses, guns, and camp supplies. He requests that his friends pray for him, as he feels he deserves it in this time of need.
