Albert W. Barber writes to brother William and sister Malvina, noting that harvesting has begun. He proceeds to list the crops being gathered and the prices for which they are being sold. Barber details that Ralph and James are currently on provost guard. Barber writes that he is not feeling well, and that his face is swollen and he has a headache. He continues by noting the death of Chaney Ashly, the oldest man in the company who Barber believed to be a good Christian. Barber continues by writing that he wishes the Copperheads were forced to fight, and that he does not think he will return home for a little over two years. Barber details that Jude is on patrol, however his personal favorite is picket duty. Barber concludes by writing that they are quartered in the center of Nashville, in a courthouse in the public square, and continues to describe his surroundings in detail.
