Kentuck Camp Elle Bishop Nov [23?] 62 Dear Brother & Sister once more I seat my self for the purpose of writing a few lines to you it is sunday & we have had inspection I guess we wont have to do much more to day the boys are mostly well Michael is about the Same [illegible] Bryant is gaining I recd these letters from you & [illegible] writen the [illegible] I recd the box with muchpleasure to hear that you was well & I hope you may ng Continue So for health is a great Earthly blessi^ which many are deprived of I See many around here that looks bad their health is poor and Camp life does not agree with them O how many there are that are now in the Hospitals Sick it is Said there is 90 thousand while there a great many being every day there was one of our company died the other day his name is John Mccartny a weeks ago he was well & now in his Coffin he was called away quite Suden was he prepared to go to meet his god in peace O. I fear But the words come in to mind Judge not that ye be not Judged his nearest friends Stood around his death bed I did not See a tear Shed over him thare boys that I hear Swearing most every day Stood around him & Still they go on in their wicked way unconcerned how long before know they may be there we ^ not we are all born to die & we all know that we cannot live always I feel that we Should always he prepared to meet God [crossed out word] in peace the Boys here that is Some of them appear to think of nothing but the present you said or wrote that you had just got back from meeting & the Brothers begin to feel the Necesity of a revival I do hope that you will See a revival in your [illegible] my you prayer is with ^ I wish that we might See [crossed out] [a] the work of the Lord [illegible] in the Army I hope we may. the Boys have got Some news that causes much talk it is that we are agoing to move to Mississippi within a week or so it is about 6 or 8 hundred miles I think the name of the place is Vicsburg on the Mississippi River the Boys Say if Old Gen [illegible] A Gilmore will Stay they want to go but if he will go we want to Stay I dont know as it makes much difference where we go I think it is very doubtful about our moveing very Soon it would be warmer down there to Stay this winter than it is here we have Some prety cold nights here it freeses quite hard nights it is very pleasant to day Malvina you wrote you had been a husking Corn I have not husked much corn this year I think you have done well in husking corn I heard that you husked 34 bushels in one day I gues the Woman will beat the men yet you Said you did not know about that box that was Sent but [crossed out] [nf] youd thought it would not of been very Acceptable according to what you read about what was sent fruit & Butter is good butter goes first best on our light bread but the Cakes we dont nead & it does not pay to Send them So far I received those Boots & those Socks that you Sent me & I am very much Oblidged to you untill I can pay you better & that wont be I am afraid very Soon not untill the war is over & we dont know how long that will be in regard to Edward he Said he would go if I would or if he could go as well a I could but now he had rather give away his horse than to go to war what has he heard that he wont go Uncle Sam uses his boys very well as we [crossed out] [as I] could expect when he has got so many to take care off I think he is a very good Uncle when his boys obey him a little more to day Seems like Sunday aday of rest we have a quite a hard time on picket we go on once in 4 days besides on guard it is against the orders to load a gun on picket it is [illegible] picketing I think but I think it [crossed out] [it] is time to close my letter for [crossed out] [your] I think you must be tired of reading before now I hope to hear from you all again before long and I hope to see you again I hope this war may close if it is a going to close by fighting let us fight & if it is agoing to close by a compromise let that be done & not keep us down here guarding rebel property I thought that was played out long ago but we are guarding there fences & chicken coops if the guard catches any one takeing a rail for wood they Shout time up as tie him up [crossed out] [in the] by the thumbs but I have Said enough about that Ralph is lying here asleep he was on guard last night please write as soon as you can write all your thoughts or all that you can So good Bye Wm & Malvina from your Soldier Brothe A.W.
