Kentucky Dec 15 / 62 Dear Brother haveing a few leasure moments I thought it might be acceptable to you to write you a few lines I have not enjoyed as good health for a week or two as hereto fore but feel that I am improoveing at present in health The whether is quite mild here now we had a few days pretty cold whether the fore part of the Month the Residents Say as cold perhaps as we Shal get this winter it is quite rainy to day rather wet for the Boys on Guard & picket I have not done much heavy duty for a week or Ten days but will hope that it ^ not be long before I Shal be able to resume my duties again Brother William if you have a desire to enlist in your Country's Service perhaps you will have a chance to enlist in the 18th Reg't as there has been a couple of Recruiting officers Sent back to recruit for the 18 that is Rather a hard record for us haveing been in Service only a little over 4 months & not haveing been in Battle but Sickness & death is doing its work among us ther has been between 30 & 40 Deaths in our Regt Since we came to Kentucky the officer that will visit your parts is perhaps George W Carter he is from Co F if he comes through there So you can get him to Stay over night with do it for he is well acaquainted with me he will perhaps appeal to your patriotv ism but dont be fooled William I learn that my Family have moved in George Evatts House & expect to winter there William if my little family Stand in nead of haveing any Teaming done or any thing els if you will assist them you Shal be rewarded if I ever return home again William I have been considerv ing the propriety of buying or haveing bought a few Sheep Say 10 or 15 in order that the woman may provide Clothing for herself & Children I learn that cotton goods are ruinous high I think that it will be cheaper to make woolen cloth I wish you would write to me what the prospect will be to get 10 or 15 good (ewe Sheap Some time next Month & what would have to be paid for them Unkle Sam has not paid us yet but we hope he will Next payday which will be the first of January then there will be 4 months pay due us I Shal perhaps Send home about Forty Dollars William my Wife wrote to me that you wished to buy those logs of mine in the Millyard for fenceing Stuf perhaps Charles Evatt may want a few to make Sheds for Cattle you can have the rest for Just what you feel willing to pay there is also a lot of logs which I got in for fence posts if you want them you can have them cheap if Charles does not want any of the logs you can have whole of them for want of room I must bring my Scribv ling to a close please answer From your Brother Soldier James Lickly to Wm Lickly
