Camp Ella Bishop Dec 26 /1862 Brother Wiliam This Morning finds me in better health than I enjoyed a few days back also finds me in the enjoyment of Soldiers [illegible] & soldiers [illegible] I recd your note by the hand of [illegible] W Barber was glad to hear from you the logs you spoke about I had written to you about Just before yours came to hand you can have them for what you think they are worth you wishe to know to whoom you Should pay the money to you may pay it to my wife you know tha I was oweing you a little [illegible] that on the pay I have heard by a letter of Luthe Woods that the Deacon wrote that my oldest Boy Henry was Sick. I have not received a letter from my wife to that affect yet William if any family are Sick or any of them will you please aid them if you Shal have a Brothers Gratitude & thanks When we enlisted we entertained the hope that this war would be put down by next Spring but those fond hopes have been pretty much dispelled every thing Seems to look gloomy as far as the is concerned the bringing of the war to a close ^ as far as human foresight can penetrate the future but it is not given to us to know what a day may bring forth Ruin Seems to hand over our Government at the Source of present time but there is one ^ consol ation we know that in this world we are to meat trial & conflict but if we Shal be found among those that Shall be accounted worthy to attain to the reser- -rection of life happiness will be our lot in the world to come You will excusee all blunders in this I remain your Brother as Ever write Soon James Lickly
