Lexington _ Ky

Dear _ Friends W. & Malvina 
 
     I received your 
kind letters about two 
weeks ago _ I have been 
Sick and _ Came to the 
Hospital the 16th of Feb and 
I am in Hospital no one  
Ward no one _ I have not 
felt hardly to write most 
the time [remainder of line illegible] 
a letter Since I have 
   been here which makes 
    it Seem more as thoe 
   I have no friends & worse 
  than all our Regt have gone 
to danville and have not 
returned & I do not See any of
Boys which makes it lonesome 
But I endevor to keep up 
good cheer. I am So that 
I _ can walk to the Store 
and Sit up I feel easy 
I have put my trust in 
God Saying thy will not 
mine and I trust he is 
bringing me out of my 
Sickness all Safe - - 
Micheal Howland is worse 
he was Brought here the Same 
time that I was _ I _ want 
you to tell all that write 
to me to direct to - Lexington 
Ky Hospital no one Ward no one 
I expect that more than  
20 letters have gone to the  
Regiment and they are so 
distant that I will not get 
them untill I get well 
unless they return to the 
former camp _ Ella _ Bishop _ 
perhaps it would interest 
Malvina to know what 
we eat & how we Sleep 
We have milch tea Cofee 
toast Bread _ Beef Rice _ pudding 
Sometimes potatoes [crossed out word] 
we Sleep or lay on Iron 
Bunks large enough for one 
person to Sleep on have a 
Straw tick on that a Sheet 
on that and two goverment 
Blankets over and two good 
pillows. they are verry [illegible] 
or feel So to a Soldier after 
being in the habit of being 
on the ground _ it rained 
last night and is a Cloudy  
wet day __________________ 
William [crossed out word] wished to know 
if our Captain had resigned 
he has and has gone home 
and I hope he will Stay 
there or keep out the army -
William I think I miss the 
meetings more than they do 
me o how I Should love 
to attend Some of your prayer 
meetings But if God Spares 
my life I Shall again enjoy 
those Blest Seasons with you 
again but I must wait 
the prospect looks rather dull but 
God can Screen me from death & 
let me again enjoy the Sound 
of the Gospel and Sunday & 
Sanctuary privelidges that I may 
more fully glorify God and do Some 
good in the world may Gods _
