Camp Willy Kentuck Oct 13 /62

                            Dear brother
I received a letter from home
to day dated oct 7th they said you and
jo were coming down to Mr Hewes, lafe
go to Mr Adams  and Ira will give you
my money and you must take good
care of it it is [illegible word] up in a 
envelope Directed to mother give it
to her when you get home there is 
thirty 5 five dollars in all. we are
thirty five miles from Cincinnati
on the lexican pike we are marching
down towards lexican. think we 
will move to morrow again

I am down with the rumatym
cant rest in any shape I have
not ben in the hospital yet dont
now how soon I will hope I
will never will stay out as
long as I can this damp weather
is hard on me. george is sick
he is here in the tent with me
he says he will write to ya
soon as convenient george has
just pulled my boots my foot is
swelled it full the damp ground
is my feather bed and never  did
such pains runn over me thare
is one half of our regiment
not fit for duty thare is no very
dangerous disease here the hospital
is stoved full cant take in any
more left as soon as you receive
this write home and let them 
know how I am I must stop

and rest my stand is on my
knapsack send this in yours
to our folks lafe I ache to git
up had rather fight than not
the boys are rather gritty they are
yoused more like dogs than like soldiers
I am sorrow to day so for I know
uncle Sam dont alow it but never
mind thare is a beter day a
coming we can stand it three years
and then we can stay three more
if needed for that old flag shall
wave till I die we are grit to the
last Star is down and then I
will pocket[?] that this war will never
end if it is going on the same All
over as it is here we are doing nothing
but guard rebel property that is
so hard never to write home  but it
seems so to me. our officer lives
on the top shelf Sleep in good

beds and we have to live or
die lafe write soon tell jo I
should like to see her hope
I shall get up soon my respects
to all innuirring friends if there
is any such tell Ira to drink
one for me and when I get a chance
I will do the same guess I 
we will git a chance to fight
soon health is all that is
