Simeon mentions that their colonel was arrested, but the circumstances around the incident are not clear. He says some of the men in another company are dancing and it reminds him of holding dances back home. Simeon then fondly recalls the difficulty of distinguishing the boys from the girls at such dances. Simeon also notes (seemingly to point out what he finds ironic) that he thinks white men have it harder than African Americans ever since the war began.
