Parole Camp Vicksburg Miss April 14th 1865 Dear Sister Jo your most welcome letter reached its destination last evening bearing the date of April 5 which found me well and enjoying a soldiers life first rate. I was very happy indeed to hear from you and hear that you were all well Sorry to hear that Lafe had been So unfortunate to bee So Sick I hope this will find him on the mend. Jo I cannot write you much have nothing worth writing only that I am well and have plenty to eat and drink I have not written to your mother yet would like to hear from her very much . Well for them rebels did not quite starve me many a night I have laid me down many a night hungry as a bear have thought of your old mother [illegible word] many a time I thank God we are now in the time of plenty once more. bee of good cheer This war is about played out I will close this short letter write on the other side to lafe. I am glad to think the war is about over for us friends are anchious to See their friends return and we are anchious to See them I have 4 months and a half to serve before my time expires then I think I will come and make you a visit I want to See the last rebel in the last ditch I shall live to Serve my country till the last let it be sooner or later.
