		April 14th 1863
      My Dearest Mother again I
seat myself to pen you a few
lines to let you know that
I am in good health and
enjoying myself exceedingly
well as [we?] are in town
doing Provost duty which is
mostly marching men and women
to the Guard House and
Jail yesterday we got about
fifteen men and three women
the women are in Jail now and 
some of the men we Have let
go again it is fun to go around
town and wharever we see
aman [drunck?] we take him
or any [illegible] without a Pass
we take them also [Ah?] we are
having fine times now

now Mother I have sent my
one coat Home by Express
Directed to Mr. Buckbee you will
find it thare if the Box goes
through all right the charges
will have to be paid thare
but it wont be much as
thare was eight of us sent in
one Box so it wont be over 
three shillings apiece at the 
most my overcoat was a
new one and I couldnot
carry it with me this summer
so I thought I would send it
home for they cost $1.50cts
nine Dollars and a half it is
worth saveing in hard times
now Mother I know I have
not written very often of
late but I hope you will
excuse me and I will try
to do better in the future

I had a letter from Alvah
a few days ago he was well 
when he wrote I have not
heard from Augustus but
once since he enlisted I
wish you would tell him
to write to me for I 
should like to hear from
him. I have written to
him but get no answer
from it. I hear from Eddy
some times. I have recd
two letters from Uncle George
since I left Home and now
Mother I want you to send
me the Postoffice address of 
Grandfathers folks also some 
of the rest in New York
for I want to write to 
them it will do Grandfather
so much good to hear from
me and also me to hear

from them now remember
and do so if you Please
    Well now how are you at
Home how do you get
along how are all the folks
and in short how are the
People in general tell them
all that Old Frank
is all sound
Oh how I like to make
these Old Kentuckiens walk up
to the mark it does me
good I am getting fat by it
well now Mother it is 
most time to go out on 
Patrol so I will close but
I will write again soon
and try to do better
write soon and give my
