Apr 18th 1863 Dear Mother It has ben some time since I have heard from you and I am getting some uneasy about that money I sent you for it is time for me to hear from it and I hope I shall soon Oh I do hope this will find you in good health for then I can be content here but when I know you are sick I am uneasy and homesick we are in town doing Provost duty now and it seems good to be whare we can see folks if they are half black yes about two thirds of the women in town are black Well Mother it is the same old story you must excuse me if I dont write a long letter today for I am on Guard we are on Guard one day and Patrol the next so we are busy all the time most then for another thing I have no news to write as it is some time since I have heard from Home I hardly know what to write. I got a letter from Wil Shaw. yesterday he is at Baltimore yet he thinks he could get his discharge if he could only get his descriptive list it has ben sent to him twice now but he dont get it yet I am going to have Capt. send it again for I want him to get Home if possible. although I should like to see him in our Co. again for he makes so much fun for us now Mother I suppose you want to know how I get along and how I content myself here in Old Kentuck well I am doing first best at the presant time. and I content myself in different ways some times by writing and sometimes by reading. then by watching thare are some right smart pretty Girls here the girls as they pass by but now this writing is rather a poor way to amuse myself. when I have to do all the writing but I expect I shall get some letters soon and I hope I shall hear from the money the package contained one hundred and twenty Dollars. $45.00 forty five of which was mine.
