Benjamin writes that he received twenty six dollars in pay, but he is wary of sending any home because twenty dollars was stolen out of a letter his brother Alvah sent home, and a number of other soldiers have had similar problems. Benjamin says that he will send ten dollars home after all so that he can get a pair of boots made for himself and so his mother may have a little extra cash.
