Monday June 27th 1864 My dear Grandson Your dear letter was recd and to be sure we were glad to hear from our “little Frank” in the way of a nice large news paper right from the front. Your epistle found us all as well as could be expected for people of our age tho we are both pretty lame Delop was drafted but got clear on account of his arm he has moved about two miles from us now Levi and Lydia live in Napoli and carry on a farm [Oelette?] lives in Steam berg they are all usually well so far as I know. It has been very dry for some time not any rain in four or five weeks There are strong appearances of rain now but we fear a [drouth?] We do not hear from your mother brother or Sister at all why do they not write to me Have you re enlisted and if you have what bounty did you receive. Please tell us all about it. Produce of all kinds is very high Potatoes Six shillings per bushel Flour nine dollars per barrel butter forty cts per pound and every thing else in prop ortion. A great many of our boys from this place are near you. the 64th NY [St?—as in State Militia?] are all composed of young men from right around as noble fellows as ever tread Virginias soil but how many will return is known on ly to the God of battles.
