Dear Parent at your request I
take my pen in hand to inform
you of the state of my health I
am in good health at the present
time and hope you are the same
I got a line from Sarah the
other day she told me about Father
I am sorry for you and if I could
help you any I should do so
I shall send you $20.00 in a few 
days for safe keeping but if
you want money use it
I can get plenty more try to
make it do until the next
pay day and if you do not
want it take good care of it
for me for I shall soon if I live
come home if not spend it
for your own comfort I shall

pay day which is evry 2 months
so if you want it to use I can
send you so much

asked me how I got along
in my Christian life with

hour of temptation I was found
asleep but my faith in God
is strong O pray for me your son
that I return to his house where
there is bread enough and
to spare if I could only see
you I could tell you more
than I can write in a week
but I must get to my work
for it is getting late I am
cooking for 11 men so I am
not in the battles to be shot
