County Michigan On Mississippi Aug 14th Dear Mother I received your welcome letter yesterday of the 28th and was happy to hear from you yours found me in good health. you said it had ben some time since you had heard from me I must tell you the reason why we had ben on a Campaign of some 22 days B.F. Marsh and I could not write much at that time. it was at the Battle of Jackson I was all through that fight and came out all right and I suppose we are going to Ky. again now. I will write you again as soon as I can, you have done just right in keeping my Boots I will write when I want them Now as for Will Shaw he is Sick and gone to some Hospital I do not know whare also George Carnes the wer both doing well when I saw them last. about two weeks ago. tell Ms Shaw she must not look to h much for him Home althoug I think he will come as soon as he gets able to travel for Our [illegible] Dr. [Fas?] told me he could get his discharge in any Hospital if he had his [Discriptive?] List with Him and he has it with him now. so I think he will get it. he did not try for it when he was with the Regt for he had a good place and was contented. you must excuse this short letter as I am going to send it with Sarahs Yours with Love from your Son
