Benjamin describes the casualties inflicted upon their regiment in the Battle of Weldon Railroad near Petersburg, Virginia. He details the death of their commander, Major H. Belcher, as well the wounds of several other men. Benjamin seems to have avoided fighting thus far because he has been tasked with making clay pipes.
