Marsh Sept 14th 1864 Dear Bro, I hasten to pen you a few lines this P.M. to inform you of my health which is far improved from what it was when I last wrote you I have not recd any letters for some time and last night I went up to my Company to learn the Whys & Wharefores and learned that the Sergt had been sending it all to City Point wheir thare was Boys in the Companny that knew I was here at the Field Hospital. I gave them a good talking to for their kindness you may bet here they have robed me of all my letters from Home and all (my Love letters) Papers etc, etc and I think it real mean but I have sent to City Point for them today and if they are thare I will get them tonight I wish you would write immediately after recieveing this and tell me if you have sent any Money to me and how much I think I will get all my letters now soon!! And one more favor I wish to ask will you Please see if you can find the Order, Issued in 1862, under which, I, and Billey Shaw enlisted. and if so Please send it to me!! for I claim that by rights we are free men after the 23rd of Sept 1864 at which time the Regt would have been mustered out if they had not reinlisted and we enlisted to serve the Regts time out. but if they choose to hold us for our time out. which will be the 9th Day of Aug Next, for me) Bulley for (only 3. months and 22 weeks) the [illegible] I am having fun times now I [bin?] like folks have all I want to eat and that which is good for I have the Cooking to be thare in two of us Cooking for the Hospital Stewards, thare is (13) in the mess . We dont see a White Woman here once in six months unless we go to City Point. however I chance to see one last evening as I was going to my Regt and I almost forgot whare I was going or what I was going for but she was Ambulance going to the rear as fast as the Horses would travel And I have been real Homesick all day Well I must Close this and write a letter to my Friend Miss (I never will tell Later 8 O.Clock, P.M.
