Nov 24th /62 Monday 12 oclock [M?] Dear friends at Home the present finds me on the steamer [Slos?] on the Potomac River I left the Hospital last Wednesday Will Shaw was real smart and doing first rate we marched to Fredric and took the cars for Washington whare we arrived on Thursday night the next day we went over to Alexandria and thare we had to sleep in small tents without any fire I almost froze you better believe will it is so cold here the crows cant squall at any rate and we had to sleep on the wet ground the next day I went and gathered some [weeds?] and made a bed and slept on it one night then started on board the steamer Hero down the Potomac went down as far at the bridge our [men?] [illegible in original] and stoped stayed on the boat all night. no fire on it and this morning we took another steamer and [came?] down about three miles and run aground and here we are now waiting for the tide to come in and I guess we will wait all night. I don't know as you can read this if you get it for I am [so cold?] I cant write very plain the sun shines very warm but the wind is very cold I hope we shall see our regts soon we have some four or five Hundred men on board for the 9th Army [illegible in original] our men are at Fredricsburgh Virginia Mother I want you to write and tell me if Mr [Kidmis?] folks hear from Isac for I have not heard from him since we left him on our march down in Mayreland and George [Carnes?] I have not heard from him since we left Baltimore I wish you would write as soon as you get this and tell me if you know any thing about them and if our box of things are thare yet I wish you would get me a good pair of Gloves or mittins and send with it write all the news tell me how you get along and direct the old way and as soon as I get to the regt I will write again Good Bye love to all BF.M three days later well Mother I have go to my regt [illegible] and found Alvah when I got to the regt I found Gham Gamey Robinson and he said their regt was about 2 two miles from us so I told him I would go with him and I found Alvah he is as tough as a bear he looks like the same old boy I stayed with him all night gave him the watch I had traded his off and got a better one now I must close for the men are going to the office with the mail and as I am out of [illegible] about one mile on duty guarding [illegible] house I have a good time Sarah you must write often [Written along side and upside down over top of Scan 4] in this I send you have [eaten?] of my [illegible] [pickling?] please send me some stamps as I have none [End]
