Camp near Fredericksburgh Va Jan 3rd 1863 My Dear Mother I recd your welcome letter last evening dated the Dec 28th and was glad to from you I think I get all your letters now I receive stamps in every one I thank you for sending them for it is impossible to get them here as for paper and envelopes we can get them when we have the money I have got about eight dollars $8.00 with me now I borrowed five of Bill Cole and three of DeWit Spaulding I shall get along until we get our pay again for we mustered this week for pay again Oh the [Reural?] you spoke about you need not take it any longer let it go. I have not heard from my box yet it has had time to come I suppose I am afraid I shall never see it DeWit has had one sent to him and he has not heard from his either you had better send the receipt to me, Edwin. sent Dewit a check of his I suppose I shall need it to get the box if it ever comes you need not worry about me mother I will try to take care of myself well mother I did not finish letter yesterday and so I will do it to day it is Sunday and it is a splendid fine morning I got up this morning just at day light and went out and washed it was worn we are having splendid weather here now it is almost like summer no mud at all. now as for your health I am sorry it is so poor but I hope it will be better soon if there is any medicen you want take my money [any?] get it I will give you the price of things out here that we have to pay butter 75 cts per pound cheese 50 cts sausage 50 head cheese 50 cts per lb.. apples 5 to 8 cts a piece that's the way the money goes out here. I have bin living on pooden and milk now for a while I bought a can of [illegible] need milk the other day and I take alittle of it and put it in a cup of water and desolve it and it is as good as new milk and we save our rations of coffee and soap and trade it for meal and make pooden which goes nice Oh I shall be so glad if I only get my box of things for the Catsuup and tomato preserves is just what I want you could not have pleased me better with any thing you could have sent I wish I had told you to sent them to Capn [Beleher?] Co G 8th Mich for BF Marsh then I think those would have not bin any trouble atall about it comeing safe but it is sent and if I loose it so be it it wont make any one poor) I am glad you sent Fathers address I will try and write to him soon and perhaps it will cheer him up some to get a letter from me I will write as cheering news as I can Mother I have an arrow point a white one which I found on Fort Elsworth Va which I will send in this letter for I have carried it until I have got tired of it and so I will send it home I hope this will find you all well Sarah I will write to you soon perhaps to day if I get time you must not stop writ- ing it has bin some time since I have reced a letter from you you must write tell Freddy to be a good boy Oh Sarah I have not seen them likeness yet and I am anxious to get them you wrote in your other letter and said you would send a piece of your new dress but I did not see it [Written on the side of Scan 4] Good Bye to all for this time BF.
