I kept house, father health is not very good. all though, he works most of the time Now I have some unexpected news. to tell you. prepar for it: Jane is married. She was married, the 26th of March. to Mr [Shattors?]. came home and staid over night. Started the next morning for her new home which is in Johnson's Creek. her husband is a widowr with five children, only one at home & he is [fourtin?] two sons in the army. & two daughters married. He only went to see her twice, we have not heard what kind of a man he is. She had a new dress, bonnet, gloves. and head. dress. I think if I had waited as long. as she has. I never would have married. Minerva has ben home She came home. the day Jane came home. She is going to [Carly’s?] again. Ellen has gone to Fergesons. So Aunt Betsy is [illegible due to tear in paper]. She is going to have her likeness taken when she goes to Lockport: It is very muddy now and has been for a long time. She is well. Mr [illegible] was buried the first day of April. he was sick. only ten days. of Typhoid fever. [It?] is very sickly. Mary is well. and doing well. Cora is quite [a?] girl. I have knit a collar. and send you [illegible due to tear in paper] [is?] [marron?] ribband, in the washes. if [illegible due to tear in paper] thought I could send it. better. without washing. [I have?] a new dress. when I make it; will send you a piece. Cotton goods is very high. and in fact: everything Calico is 28cts; etc. Butter is 25 cts; Potato, 30 cts; what will poor people do. we think. Amy & I have got the whooping cough. Oh: dear, what will I do, I am chrocheting me a [net?]; my hair is so thin. I cant do anything with it; Aunt Eunice. came from the west yesterday she has been to Horace Rockwoods. Old Mr [Woodruff?] is alive. and engoying good health, we have got most out of work and things are so high. Dont know as we will ever get any thing again. we have made over 100 lbs of Maple Sugar, it is 20 cts, [Charlie?] is full of mischief, he is quite a boy.
