Frederick city Maryland July 16th 63 Dear sister once more after along delay I take this opportunity of writing you afew lines to let you know that I am still alive and quite well since you last herd from me I have herd, and seen agoodeel of June war, the last day of [crossed out] ^[August] was the first time we saw any rebs but since that time we have been marching and fiting all the time we were engaged at [crossed out] [frederick] Gettisberg both days and for our forth of july we marched through the mud and rain all day andat night took arebil [crossed out] [wa] wagon train about two miles long loded with every thing that they could find to [Written in red ink on the top of Scan 2] July 1863 [End] steil the train was burned up I have herd the whizing of balls the screeching of shells and the humming of musket balls to my satisfaction but the rebs have left Marylend now but before leaving they give me some thing to remember them by they give me shot which interfered with my eating [crossed out] [apparatus] apratus but it did not fructure any bones I cam mot write much more but will write more next time & with love to all I remain as ever your brother G W M
