Coomer Nov 26th 1862 Cousin Agness: Your kind letter was recieved sometime since and should have been answered before this. The only excuse is. I have been [illegible] busy. this fall. And then you are not very punctual in answering mine. I have quite a number of correspondents. So I write one or two letters every week. It is very lonely here this season. All the young men gone to war. [two words illegible] has bid farewell to friends & home. in our neighborhood and nearly as many in the one adjoining to his down this line, if required. in defer of the the "Star and Stripes". My Uncle. has [returned?] he will be a cripple for life. his left arm is disabled: & his left leg. four inches shorter than the other. Minerva came home Saturday she remains for a time. She is quite well, [Ben?] is get to Mr Shallow. they are anxious for him has to remain during the winter. her health is good. for her. Mary has had the [intermittent?] fever. but is recovering. Aunt Betsy is well. Ellen Richmond has been with her during the fall. & is still with her. She is better. but is not yet well, we are having very pleasent wether. for this season. of the year. the roads are very good. we have had one snow storm but did not last long. Fruit has been very plenty. Apples especially we have dried seven bushel. & have a few more to dry. the fetch $1. per bushel, I have got a new cloak. bonnet. dress. & set of [fare?]. my dress is only [illegible]. I will send you a piece [two words illegible], my bonnet is black velvet; trimmed with purple velvet I gave $7. for it my cloak is a long [sacque?] with pocket in it: it is [illegible] but pretty. Calico is 20 ct [illegible] 2/- & 3/- per yard. we think it will be cheaper. after they get to [making?] linen. Here to Lockport. they. give #10 per [ton?] for the straw. when it. is rolled. they make it into [flare?] cotton. I will send you a sample) they then send it: To the Eastern States: to have it. spun. and more. as they have not got that part of the machinery, as yet: but undoubtly will have. another year, It is a very fine [illegible] Thursday is Thanksgiving, come and help us eat chickens and other good things. Aunt Betsy & Minerva is coming up. we raised [illegible] turkey this season. we are not going to kill them yet: Have you heard from Uncle Lars folks recently. Has your mother recovered from her fall. I know something what it is, as we have had a trial. Mother never has or will get over it; her ankle broke this fall. I presume she will have a fever some. Ben is going [here?] to school this winter, I am going to remain at home. most of the time shall visit some. we have got considerable sewing and fixing old cloths, for winter, People have to economize. well they have been all to gether to [illegible], I must draw my lengthy lettert to a close.
