Chattanooga Oct 14th 1864 t Dear Wife and Children it is With Pleasure tha^ i take Pen in hand to Let you know that i am well and hope this will find you Well also but i am Sorry to Say that Lewis is not yet will but is Still with the Reg we have just been on a heavy martch and have not round hear after 2 weeks march i went to Atlanta Started from this Place for the Reg the same day i wrote the Last Letter to you and went their the next Day after i Got their went on picket come off the next Day after that and when we com in we were ordered to pack up and get ready to march that nite we went on the cars and Started for this Place from hear we went to Athens Alabama on the Cars and from their we went on foot to Florance about 50 miles on foot Drove old forest acrost the Tennesee River about 5 miles from Tuscumba whear the Boys ware 2 years ago then we Turned Round marched back to Athens took the Cars and Come to Chattanooga this morning about 30[c?] well and round Exept my feet are verry sore and So you See this is the first chance i have had to Write to you in about 3 weeks it is Rumered that we will Stay hear for a fiew Days but Dont no how it will go but When you Write after this Letter Comes to you Can Direct to O.G. Chattanooga Tenn and it will Come to me if i am not hear i got your Letter Last nite that you direct to Lute with Daniels Letter in it was glad to hear that you was al Well and was glad to hear from Daniel Shall answer his letter in a day or too when i get rested a little was glad to hear you had got the Pen and to 5 dollars you Can see that i Dont Spend all my money as some do i want my family to have Some of it as well as i Do Dear Wife Wrote you was afraid you woould freas to death this Winter i hope not Frankey must mud up the house Warm and then you can keep warm with less Wood tell frank to make the Stable Warm and Dry and Stable and take Good Care of the Cattle if you have that Little [firn?] Steer yet and he is yet for Beef you had better kill him and Eat him up when you Write you must tell me all the news and all the Perticulars about home and now i will tell Hatty that her Lewis is looking quite Poor and thin but he Says he feels Better then he has before in Some time and i hope he will Get well now but ed this march was Party hard on him as it Rain^ all the way out their and mud anckel Deep at that but he feels smart to day again and hope he will Get along George & Charly are well and now as you Write you woo -uld send me 1/2 [lb?] of tea so you may Send it now if you can and Mother Send me Good Green tea and Sew it in a Bag so it wont Brake Open i feel as if i could Drink a Good Cup of Tea now if i had it as Soon as i Draw my Pay again i will send you Some more money and you must Do as well as you can write and tell me if aney thing goes rong and if you want to no about aney thing Old Sealy.
