Camp Near Savanna Geo Dec 18th 1864 Dear Wife and Children last knight i Got 2 letters from you the first i have Got in 35 Days that found me well and i hope this will find you all Enjoying the Same blessing i can not Write you a Long Letter now but will in a fiew Days we have been Cut off from all Communication with ower friends So Long that we Dont no what is Going on in the out Side world but we are once more whear we Can hear from friends and gome and their is in General Rejoysing in the army Genl Sherman has led us through an Enimies Country nearly 400 miles and hardly lost a man and now we lay in ower Entrenchments before the Citty of Savanna about 15 or 20 milds from the See Shore we Exspect to Capture this Citty before Long but in Doing So perhaps many men will lose their lives and we Cant tell who it will be you have perhaps heard before now that Shermans army was Starving to Death in Going through but it is fals we had no rations Dealt out to us but 2 times comeing through and then only one day at a time but we wore ordered to forage on the Country that we past through and we did it with a vengeance we had fresh pork chickens turkeys Geese Ducks and all Sutch in the meat line and for Bread we yoused flower and meal that we Got from the inhabitants on the way and all the Sweet Potatoes we Could Eat and Some honey and Butter so you see that we lived well Generaly i Did not Go hungry only one Day on the whole rout ad that is Saying a Good Deal whear their are So meny men togeather but i will Quit now and talk about other maters your tea you Sent me i have never Got but i may Get it yet i Sent you 10 Dollars in a Letter just before we Started and i Exspressed 50 Dollars to Lansing for you and i Sent 10 dollars to Truman Spencer to Pay John Pits Some that i Owed him and to Send me 2 lbs of tobacco and the Rest to put to your account i want you to find out if he Got it and wheather you Got yours and Send me word in your next i will send you the Receipt for the money that i Sent to Lansing and i will Send you 10 dollars more in this but i want you to be Careful of the money as you can as it is Drawing interest from the Government and we want Some when i come home if i Live to Do So and if i Draw aney more Pay before George Price Comes home i will Send home Some more we have all most 4 months Pay due us now or we will on the 1st Day of January and now i will Soon have to Quit for inspection and now Dear Hatty i will have to Write you a fiew words you wanted to to have me tell you whear Lute was if i Could i Left him at Chattanooga and i have not had a Line from him Since i Left him i hope he is at home before this or thhat you have heard from him i cant tell you whear to Write to him as i Dont no whear to direct to but i must Close as the mail is Going out Write away so Good buy Wife and children for this time be Shure and Write often kiss all the children for me and Receive a husbands love and Affection till Death Direct to O.G.
