In Camp Near Fayetteville North Carolina Cape Fier River March 12th 1865 Dear and Affectionate Wife and Children once more am i permitted to Write you a fiew Lines i Dont no as you Can Read them as i am youseing my knee for a Desk but i hope you can i am blessed with my usual Degree of Good health but am all most Woren out with marching and bad Roads and i Cant Write mutch to Day if we Stay hear aney Length of time you will hear from me more fully but i hope this will find you all well and Doing well when you Write tell me how the Cattle Look and So on we are on the Cape Fier River North Carolina as you will preseive by the heading of this Letter we have been about one month in the State of South Carolina and Wo to that State but i cannot write you the Details in this So i wont Say aney thing about it till next time i do not no as we will Get aney mail hear but if we Doo i will write you i have not Received aney Letters from you of corse but i hope you i Shall have Some mail from you before we Leave hear as i know we Shant Stay hear Long and whear we Shall Go to from hear God and Genl Sherman only know and thay wont tell so i Cant tell you of corse tell me when you Write what you are doing With the Shugar Boosh and wheather Ira workes it or not Give my Love to all of the Friends and Neighbors and when you Write tell me all the news and if you Dont answer this till after Town meeting you must tell me who is Elected Supervisor and now i hope again this will find you all well and Hatty i hope you and Harry are boath well and i hope you have heard from Lewis before this and in fact i hope he is at home and Enjoying himself O how i woould Like to be able to come home and See you all we have not Drawn aney Pay yet thay Owed us Six month Pay the first Day of this month but i Dont hear aney thing about Pay So i Dont no when we will Get aney i hope you are not out of money for i have none to Send you i Dont no as i Shall be be able to Get enough to by my tobacco with as tobacco is awful high hear i have paid out $4.90 in one month for tobacco So you can judge how high it is if you have only got money Enough to Get along with till i Draw my Pay i will be Glad George and Charles Price are with us hear yet there is Some talk that thay will Get their Discha -rge hear i hope thay will as the Boys have been in over their time 2 months Hatty i want you to Enquire at the Post Office and if there is aney Letters Come their for George Price you take them Out and take Good Care of them for him till he Comes as he is afraid Some wone will Get them and Open them the Letters he Exspec -ts there are Business Letters and i am Some what Conserned in them and Dont want aney one to Get them that will Open them as i Exspect thay may have my State Bounty in them as i Let a Loyer in Detroit Colect it and told him to Send it to George Price to locke as George Exspected to be home long before this but i must Close So with maney Blessings and Prairs for your futeuer happiness i Remain your husband & father To Elizabeth & Hatty OG Dunckel Direct to Co K 14th Mich Inft 1st Brig 2nd Dir 14th Al Washington Citty D.b.
