This is a letter from O.G. Dunckel, a Union soldier, to his wife Elizabeth and their children. Dunckel will soon start marching for his discharge from the army; he is not as happy about it because they must walk all the way and it is extremely hot. He hopes to be home by mid June. Since he won't be there during planting time, he tells his family what to plant on the farm.
