This is a letter from O.G. Dunckel, a Union soldier, to his wife Elizabeth and their children. Dunckel is upset that his wife's leg is worse than ever, and that she didn't take his advice to see the doctor about it. The march to Washington DC has been very hard on the men; some have died from the heat. He talks about bringing presents home with him, as well as seeing many of their friends during the march.
