Georgia Kingston May 31st 1864 Dear Wife and children i feel quite [smudged] to day & yesterday Lewis wrote home [smudged] from [illegible in original] and is lay in the shade Sick when the Reg Started the Docter Left me to come on the cars i started this morning and hear i am ahead of the Reg so i thought i woould Write and Let you no how i was i Dont no wheath -er Lewis told you i was sick or not but i was alltired sick when they Left again i say i am quite well to Day and i sinsearley hope this will find you all well and Enjoying your selves we are now within 25 miles of the Whole army on the front and will be up with in a couple of Days i got a letter from william about a week ago but it had been coming one month So i cant Give you aney news from him you must write Everry week we dont Get aney Letters now but we Shall when we Get to ower owen brigades which will be in a Couple of Days and all ways when you Write tell me how you all are and write me all the newis Keep up Good Courage Dear wife and put your trust in God he will Do all things for the Rest and as the war is now proger -sing i think six months at the [fartherand?] will wind it up and that seems to be the opinion of officers and men Every whear tell me how Frankey Gets along with the work and all about it i have not Drawen aney Pay yet and i dont think we shall Write a way if you Can i wish you would send me 8 or 10 Postage Stamps in your next as we cant Get them hear and we are most out i want you to tell me how you get on for things to Live on and all about it tell me how the cattle look and so on and now i will tell you how things Sell down hear Cheas 50 cents [pr pound?] Butter one dollar [Smudged] 12 [illegible in original] pr dozen milk 80 cents a Quart tobacco 1.50 a pound tea we Cant Get aney i have not tasted a Drop Since we left Nashville and have not Drank 2 Dozen cups Since i left home i shall be Completly weened from Tea if i ever live to get home but i Should Like to be at home this afternoon and take a Cup of Tea with my family but i Cant and so i will have to be [conted?] to take a Cup of Coffy and Soldiers fair in Kingston and now all of the Boys from Lucke were well yesterday Exept Shellman we left him Sick at Chattanooga and Since we left their i have heard that Elisha Perkins was their if i had knowen it mite went and seen him as well as not Give my Love to all Enquireing friends and now Dear Wife Take Good Care of your self and the children and when you write tell me all about them Dear Harriet my love to you and as usual i want you to stick by your mother till i come Back Frank your father often thinks of you he wants you to help take care of the Rest when father is Gon and you must take good care of the Mears and not work them to hard and now George i want you to be a good Boy and and let your mother Give you Good advise and you must be Shure and take it and now David and Charly you must be Good Boys and go to school and when Pa Gets home you will be all most men and now Nelly and Harry mary God Bless you Boath and i want ma to Kiss you all and give you a Blessing for me but little maty mother must take Espes -ial care and kiss often for Pa and now Dear Elizabeth Good By for this time Direct to Kingston Georgia the Rest of the Directions you no all ready Fare Well O.G.
