Georgia Camp in the field June 5th 1864
Dear wife and children we have at last ketched
up with Shermans Grand army and So i thought
i woould Write you those fiew lines to Let you
know that Lewis and myself are boath in the Land
of the Living Lewis is Well and i am Getting

Smart again alltho i have not^ quite well since
i wrote you from Kingston But i hope this will
find you all well and Doing well i seen William
Dunnckel Charely Lake. John Deforest and Robert
Scott yesterday they were all well William
looked as tough as a knott and i think
i shall bee when i Get over the Georgia
Shitts we have not got aney male Since
we left Bridgeport two weeks ago but we
are in hopes we Shall get Some in a fiew
Days Write often Every week and tell me all the

and how the cattle Look and how the Clover
looks and how the apple trees Look this Spring

Quiet now with the Exeption of Smart Picket firing
yesterday and Considerable Canonading when the  
big fighting will com off we dont of Corse no but
perhaps in a Short time if the Rebs dont Runn
again soon i Do not think thay will Evacuate
their present [posish?] with out a fight their
has been some hard Scermishing hear before we
got hear and in fact is almost Every Day and
now i must close with my Love to all
of my little ones kiss Little mary for me
her father thinks verry often of her and in
fact you must kiss all of the little ones
for me and tell them their father loves
them and Harriet my love to you and
little Harry kiss him for me and now Dear
wife my Warmest Love to you and my undi

Lewis Just now comes to mee and says
he has so mutch Duty to do that he cant
write to day so i will Write Some more
the newis has just Come in to Camp
that the Rebbs have evacuted their Posish
in owr front wheir they will go to if thay
have i Dont no but if thay are gon we
wont stay hear long as we are bound
to follow them you may be Shure but
how farr is hard to tell Atlanta is 22 mi
-les from hear and it is supposed that
thay will make one more Stand between
hear and that place but it is hard
telling thay say that are Whiped now
but they are fighting for Revenge now
but their revenge will be Short Lived i
think as that cant fite allways when
their country is litterly recended by it
Everry thing wheir the armies go is
Left in Desolation but i must close
