This is a letter from O.G. Dunckel, a Union soldier, to his wife Elizabeth and their children. Dunckel recieved the first letter from his family since he's been in the hospital, and is quite relieved. He talks about how the mail service has been in different areas near the front. Dunckel tries to discourage his son George from joining the army. He sends money home, and tells his wife what to do with the funds. He also asks her how the crops and garden are doing.
