Camp Blair Oct 8th 1862 I take this opportunity to write you a few lines. I suppose you received a letter from me last weak & I thought I would write again as thare is prospect of our moving soone. we had maching orders last night but the order was countermanded one account of our horsses not being shod. the Blacksmitths have been very buisy to day & we shall be ready to move in a few bean days.. 7 or 8 of our Boys have ^ over to Louisville this after noon for teams to take our baggage our Captain goes with us on all such expeditions he is one of the best men our reg.. affords perhaps you would like to know how we enjoy ourselves here in camp first rate most of the time some times over we have the blues a little but not very often Oct 13th 1862 I have time more to write a few ^ lines to you and will improve it we left Jeffersonvill the 10th have been on the mach for over three days we are now about seventy miles from Louisvill on the Louisvill & Bardstown Stone road the Rebles are one the retreat now they had a goodeal of a Battle for the 9th at Perrysville camped thare last night in sigh of the Battle Field all yesterday after noon we meet long trains of waggonns loaded withe wounded going Back to Bardstown we come up to the Field of Battle a little before sundown our dead ware all Buared but thee Rebles ware not we could see 10 or a dozzen lying black in the Field and one laying side of the road whare he had lain for three days they will all be buared as quick as they do it to can ^ but own must be tended ^ first our loss was 300 Killed and seven hundred wounde the Rebles ware badley whiped and wer over retreating befor us but a few miles [ahead?] and we expect another battle before many days Lucy I never want you to see such a sight as we saw yesterday it is bad rough to see death at home but to see men that have been killed in Battle after they have lain 3 or 4 day is more than an- ything I ever saw before and I hope I never shall see such a sight again. I guess I have enough written ^ on this subject and will stop the Boys from our way are all well and feel well the reason I have not writen to you oftener is bcause I have not had time and not because I have not thought of you we have stoped to feed our horses one Reble corn and I have improved what little time I had. we are now in sight of the rear of the Reble army and expect a fight right way I have no more time to write now will finish it when I get time if I dont have a chance to send it right away Yours Truly as Long as I live Write Sone O.E. Gooding Direct to Louisville Kentuckey Oct. 14th we stoped last night at v Dansville the Reeble ca^alry had left thare only the morning before we ware caled up at 11o'clock in the morning and Sent on with two other regiments to find out whare the enemy ware we kept on till most daylight when our advance guard ware fired up on by the Rebles we all stoped on a hill on [2 words illegible in original] a half dozen shells over our heads but did no harm our artilery come upt and opend on them When they skeddled in a hurry the Rebles had one col.. of mortaly wounded we are now going on in present thar was none of our hurt (I shall send this if I have a chance) right away, dont think any thing if you dont hear from me very often as I dont have much time to write I have writen this while the horses are resting Your etc O.E.
