may be you would like
to know how I fell this day
I fell just as good as any one
does with the tooth ache
I tried to have it puled
this morning but the
doctor could not quite
do it I would write
more but dont fell
much like it
I receivd yours of the
6th the 19th this is the
5th letter to you.
I will write again when
I have a chance
the last letter before this

		May 21st a864
Dear Lucy
	       once more I will
write you a few lines to let you
know how I prosper you will
see by looking on the Map whare
we are the rebles have been doing
some tall runing so far and
the order come around to pack
up our Battalion go out as
an escort to one of the Engineeres
he takes us out [5? 6?] miles and
leves 10 of us on picket close

to some Reble planters houses
the owners have run away and
of course we have to look
& see what they have left
find everthing that we want
and more to.  preserves mollasses
flour chickens and last but not
least a barrel of [illegible in original] in Bottle
we drunck what we want
and carry the rest to camp
have a couple of bottles left
for to day long towards night
we return to camp.
this is the richest country we
have ever been in thare is every
thing that one can ask for.
we are orderd to be ready
to move tomorrow moring with
twenty days rations the Boys say
we are going some whare & it
kind a looks that way
we have had some fighting
since I wrote you last

the 2d & 3d Battalions got nicely
whipped out on the 18th by a
Brigade of Reble cavalry Major
Robbin of the 2d Battalion had
his arm broken by a shot Major
Grant of 3d was taken prisoner
Major Mix acting Lieut Col.. had
his horse shot but escaped by 
runing into the Bushes 1st Lieut's
Carter & Randolph wounder supposed
to be mortal a sargent in company
"E" shot dead and two privates
killed. besides 9 wounded and
12 taken prissoner we had a
fight on the 15th near Rome in
which we had three wounded
two Sargents of company "E"
one lost his [illegible in original] by a shell
the other lost a finger by
a peice from a shell I dont
know but you may know him
his name is. [illegible in original]. he is a
mason by trade and worked on
