Aug 13th 1864 Dear Lucy Seated side of my bunk in the 2d story of 2d Cavalry Divisson hospital whare I have bee for the last ten days I will try and write you a few lines to let you no that I am not all right as I should be but hope to be in a few days I was bad of when they brought me hear having the inflymation on the Lungs I have now got over that but it has left me rather week and I cant get around much yet but am gaining fast and will soon be able to take care of myself again I wrote a few lines to Father day before yesteday to let them no whare I was the day before I came here I recd two letters from you and have just finished reading them I dont know when I shall get any more our regiment are about 30 miles from here and my mail all goes thar & as I do not expect to stay here but a few days you had better wait utill I tell you whare to direct before sending more a hospital is not the most pleasant place ^ I have ever lived in thare is six besides myself in this little room two died a night or two after I come hear two of the others are very scick while the rest are getting along with a prospect that looks as though they might soon be able to be shot at agin we have what they call good living here but it dont seam to me they no what that means by they may they feed us a little peice Brad of burnt toast ^ without butter and a cup of tea without milk & you have the whole Bill of fare sometimes a little soup but then it is so weak it wont [run?] alone. if I have good luck they aint a going to keep this Yank in this style a great while I have writen on this until I am tired hoping it will find you in better health then it leves me I will close Othniel
