Aug.. 24th 1864 Dear Lucy here I am clear back in the rear once more out of hearing of cannon and musketry thare has been but few days in the last four months but what I have been in hearing of them and some times closer than I should go if it was not nessary to do so I left Mariette on the 19th and arrived here yesterday I had charge of 65 sick and wounded to come here to the hospital got them through all right & now I am in the convalescent camp here it is a very good place eough to eat i nothing to do and best of all no med^cin to take I am rather weak yet but am gaining this is one of the richest countrys in Tenn you can get anything you want in town the is about as large as Ypsilanti the county. seat of this county fruit thare is no end to peaches are ripe and thare is bushels fetched into this camp every day Grapes are ripe I have just been eating some I would like to send you a peach larger than any you evey see in Mich.. but as I cant send it I will eat it & think of you I stoped two nights & one day at Nashville found Frank thare I was glad to find him for I did not know whare he was he has been sick but is looking first rate now I am going to stay here utill I get well if they will let me I am on the last year now and they will do well if they get as much fighting out of me as they have for a year back I suppose I shall have to obey orders that's all the way thare is to get along here the last letter I wrote to you was from Mariette on the 14th it is a month since I have heard from you Write if you are so inclined Othniel
