Dec 4th /1864 Dear Lucy I have a little spare time & will write you a few lines I received a letter from you the 30th it found me all right only a little lonesome and that is nothing new for me it is sunday afternoon and everything is quiet in camp one of the most pleasant days I ever see we have had nice weather most ever since I come here the regiment are all getting togather here thare is between seven & eight hundred here now we have got to be equiped new throuought I guess this is the last new equipments we shall have to draw hope so at least thare is a great many visitors in camp now lots of them from Mich a good many of the Officers Wives are here and they are having a gay time thare was preaching in camp this fornoon by our chaplin he has never been with us before for the reason we have never stoped long enough for him to find whare we ware they have put up a large tent to hold meatings in I suppose we shall have preaching regular now the Chaplin belongs to the Episcople Church thare is a chance for him to do as much good as he is a mind to here for I dont beleive thare ever was a roughfer set togather here how long we will stay ^ I wish I knew I'd tell the first Divission left here this morning going towards Nashville Hood is cuting up nicely down thare they say I hope he will not take Nashville if he does our fighting next summer will be in Tenn they have had some hard fighting near Nashvill within the last few days I wish the Rebles would mind their own business I am afraid they will have us out after them soon you wanted to know what the officers said to me for not getting back on time they did not even look at my furlough it would of made no differance if I had stayed a week longer Russell got here yesterday I expected to of met him in Ypsilanti when I come back but he had his furlough extended twenty days I dont think he spent his time any more pleasant than I did if he did as well he has nothing to complain of James Delaforce would like to get a furlough I wish he might he is about as jelous [fated? pated?] as ever hope if he comes home he will find Miss Butler all right I would not like to have Jim know that I wrote this he might not think I was speaking much in his praise
