[Written upside down on top of Scan 1] Give my best respects to all enquiring Friends some of them I promised to write a calculate to yet when I get time I guess I have done & (Good bye) 1862 Camp Six miles East of Nashville Tenn: Nov 24 I received yours of the 19th last evening and as I have a few minuits to spare I thougt I would write you a few lines I sent you a letter the 18th and wrote about all I could think of but I aggreed to write whenever I. had time will write a few more lines now we hve moved but four miles since and have been lying in camp restig the regiment both men & horsses needid rest very much they had been out one a scout for two weaks had chased the rebles all over the country the Rebles wont stand and at all but just as quick as we come in sigt get rite up & skedadle our boys run old Morgan for five miles one day but could only keep in sight of him by seeing the dust his horses raised thay seem to be mighty wich which fraid of our regiment our regiment is acting over as scouts for General Rosecrans it is called the best Cavalry regiment he has in his comand maybe you think I am brgging allittle the Genrals hade a goodeal of a debait to see which should have the 4th Mich.. to comand we have been in Mc.. Cooks Divison but aint in any divison now and do about as we have a mind to we are camped in the woods one a side hill with a first rate Spring of water close by and are having a very good time we have plenty to eat Hard tack Bacon & coffee for Breakfast Bacon Hard tack & coffee for Dinner coffee Bacon & Hard tack for Supper and some other good things such as Sweet potatoes molasses & Chickens & once in the while a turkey I killed 3 the other day and they made a first rate Kettle full we have all got to be first rate cooks of course live well enough you spoke of looking at little 2 ½ inch case s you had in your posse^ion I believe I have one about the same size and looke at once in the while & some times twice ha I should like to look at the orignal a goodeal better over I read those lines writen in that little Book often but think of the one that wrote them a goodeal oftener you say you have taken a school to teach this winter I wish you all the good luck in the world you seam to think the School House is in a Lonesome know place I Dont know as I do I ^ very well whare it is should think you had a good place you must not have the Blues to much have them once in the while just to know ^ how good you can fell I get along first rate most of the time get a little lonesome the while once in ^ but it dont last long I get along full as I expected to I dont enjoy n myself any better than I would at home I would not have you think but get along very well I am writen this one a box of Hard Tack sitting on my Blanket on the ground in our tent Mr Bunce & Deleforce are writing by the same light Miletus an Augustus are out by the fire eating there Supper Gus gets along first rate & so does Miletus he got a letter from home last evening I beleive I have writen about all I can think of you said write a long letter and i think I have done pretty well if we ware stiring around any I might have more to write about your letter was about the right length you wanted to know if i would like to have a paper sent once in the while I would like anny one you have a mind to send me dont get many in camp onley what we have sent to use we have a chance to buy one once in the while by paying from 10 to 20 cents we have a chance to buy soft Bread by paying 20 cents a Soft rye bread at that he sells cheese for five cents a mouth full other things after the same fashion but he dont sell to me and I guess he wont much write as often. as you can let how me know ^ you get along with your School I am not afraid but what you will get along first rate let me know all the news. my Candle is most burned out the candle stick is a baynite stuck wrong end up in the ground the boys have gone to bed all around me and want me to blow out the light and so I will quite ride the verses on the out side of this envelop I guess they are all I will send you back that Kiss you sent to me OE Gooding not that one but one just like it will keep that myself
