Camp 4th Mich Cavalry. Near Chickawsau Landing Miss March 18th 1865 Dear Lucy since writing to you last we have moved our camp to this place we are not expecting to stay here but a few days we have turned over all extra clothing company desk have been sent to Nashville we are to have no Wagon train at all it is thought we are agoing on a raid down through Miss. to Mobel, Ala. one thing cretain this whole comand ^ are getting ready to move quick when they do go. last summer I did not dread such a move but I do now, if we get through without hard fighting we shall be luckey I dont suppose thare is any use of dreading it & I dont know but I would about as quick go as to be left behind some would say I was playing of if I should stop back to the Boys from our way are all well I received a letter from you the othe night it was writen Feb 26th the last I wrote before this. was on the 7th a short letter I beleive you meed think nothing strange I if you dont hear from me very often for if we go south we cut lose from all communication if we stay here a few days I will write again. we are having the nicest kind of weather now a days grass [begins?] to look green & trees to leave out cold weather is over with no more of it while I stay in the service it is reported that Maj Gen. [Geireson?] takes command of the cavelry Corps in place of Gen. Wilson I hope it is so for he is an old raider.
