[Written upside down on top of Scan 1] if you should see any of our folks tell them to direct to Jeffersonville, Ind I wrote to them the other day and told them to Direct Louisville we had orders to go thare then but they ware countermanded be forer we moved O.E.G 1862 30 Camp nere Jeffersonville Ind = Sept Dear Lucy I take this time to write you a few lines & let you how know ^ I am getting along we left Detroit Friday morning one half of the regiment going to the central depot the others going By the Southern Rout we left Detroit at 4 P.M. arived at Adran at 8 in the evening the cittizans furnished us with a lunch Stoped about half an hour when the train lefet for Laporte Ind.. arived thare d next morning unloaded our horses feed & water^ them & took Breakfast our selves coffee furnished by the citizans. left Laporte at noon one of the nicest villages I was ever in it is about 225 miles from Detroit on the Mich.. Southern & Northern Ind.. Rail Rode run down to the crossing about 12 miles & switched on to the New Albany & Salem Railroade got into Indianaplos about 12 oclock the same nigt hot coffee furnished us by the citizans Frank & myself ware detailed to carry it from the Hotel to the cars left thar at one o'clock by the Indianaplos & Jeffersonville R. Road for this place arived at noon Sunday. it did not seem much like Sunday to me everythigns looks like ware here soldirs are coming in by every train we expected to of went across the river to Louisville but have gone back about 3/4 of a mile from Jeffersonville & camped right in sight of [Rabledome?] the Rebls have a large force 12 or 14 miles of this place & a Battle is expected but I guess the Fedrals are prepared to meet them any time they are a mind to come we are ancxious to get drilled so we can be over thare with them we are now camped in a very plesent place but I dont think we shall stay here very long we arived here with but one bad accident about 2 miles from Jeffersonville the cares run under a bridge thare was a number of our boys out on top of the cars they all see the Bridge & laid down but one he was standing up his head come against the Bridge Braking his jaw and almost tearing his scalp of. the Doctor thinks doubtfull about his getting well he was one one of our company his home was in Detroit City I dont know as it is any wors to be hurt in this way than to be hurt in Battle it seems worse to us yesterday thare was passed 4000 thousand paroled prisoners ^ by the camp they ware taken at Murfordvill the 17 of this month through the trechery of Gen- Buel who is under arrest now General Nelson was shot by one of his officers sunday morning he had comand of the forces for the defence of Louisville the Boys are well from our way and fell well Frank myself ware on guard last night night and have no duty to do to day so we are spending our time writing Frank is laying on the ground asleep now he has writen so much to Maria that he has run out we shant get much time to write for a spell as we have a good deal to do in camp Stebins & myself went out on a forging expidition yesterday we found some Beach nuts some Acorns green corn and part of an apple all of which we confiscated we are in a hurry to get across the River so that we do more of that buisness I dont now as I am writing any thing that will interest you to read & I guess I will stop A Fuller esq sliped his head out pretty easy [Athelinboys?] think he will be sent for our officers thought he was coming with us they told right him it would be all ^ about his pay if he shall would come along Capt.. Wells says he ^ send for him if he dont come without but I dont think he will and I hope he wont if he is agoing to be as lazy here as he was in Detroit he no need to of lied to us with as he did he said he was coming ^ us I did not beleive him any of the time he come on to the cures at the Junctions this side of Detroit and the boys thout he was going sure and did not miss him till we had gone a number of miles you need not let him know that I have writen you anything about it & I will tell more Some other time (plese keep still) I have got tired of writing & guess you will of reading this scribling the wether is a goodeal warmer hear than in Detroit and I have to write this laying on the ground Plese Direct to (Jeffersonville Ind.. 4th Mich..
