[Written upside down on top of Scan 1] I will write as often as I can get time the 2d and 3d Brigades are out on a Scout and our Brigade has all the picketing to do and it keeps us buisy Escuse this poorly writen letter Truly, Yours, Othniel Camp Park May 16th 1863 Dear Lucy once more I take my pen to write you a few lines I received yours of th 7th yesterday I have been on duty most all the time lately & have not had much time to write and I beleive I have not writen much but will now write you a few lines to let you know that I am all right I was glad to hear you ware well & the rest of the folks the rest of the boys have gone out to drill this afternon I got excused from drill not because I am scick but what some folks calls lazy thats whats the mater ailes me I was over to see Gust over a few days ago he has got so that he is on duty in the Hospital acting at [illegible in original] shoul think he was enjoying himself very well Wells Spange us in the same hospital he is very scick Frank & myself are agoing over to see him tomorow if we can get a pass Franks Health is improving and he begins to look a little as a soldier should he seams to enjoy himself first rate especialy when he gets a letter with fine hand writing on & he gets them often (& they all look Mooreish) I guess if Frank new what I am writing I would get tumbled. whats the mater with shell [illegible in original] Thorp is thare anything ^ with him I guess he has the blues I wish I could receive a picture of some good looking Girl I dont know but yours would answer we have moved our camp Since I last wrote have moved into woods a nice piece of ^ and close by a first rate Spring and we are having some of the nicest weather you ever saw beats Mich.. all to nothing corn is up 8 or 10 inches high the Sun beats down very hot for alittle while in them idle of the day the nights are cool we have had but very little rain this Spring & it has been first rate weather for soldiering I like the buisness a goodeal better than I did in the winter. would come Home now if they would give me a discharge but dont care much bout suppose I should be contented till the war is closed [illegible in original] which I dont see much prospect of very soon.
