Minnie tells Lottie that she expects to graduate from Oberlin in the fall, and she wants Lottie to come to the commencement, since Minnie will deliver a speech. Minnie intends to avoid getting married immediately after college, like many young women, and instead, travel "up west" to live with her sister in Iowa for a period of time. She also notes that she is interested in a couple "Fast Boys" at school, one of which called on her at home, but Minnie was not there.
