Ann Arbor July 6th 1862 Well my Angel am I welcome at this late time? I am frightened to think what a long time has elapsed since Lotties letter came to me. But actually I have not had time before I have thought of you every day and thought well I must write guess I will in the evening _ but there has been something going on all the time for the past four or five weeks so that I couldn't possibly write. Mollie Lamond one of our [Aldrian?] school friends is making us a visit and a gay old time we are having she has been with us nearly three weeks. Oh! Lottie you cant imagine how lonely it is here now with all the students gone such a [Written upside down on top page] to all enquiring friends to my Aunt and uncle Write to me very soon dont wait as long as I have. [End] sudden change _ I tell you it is almost overpowering _ I expect the comming three months will be the dullest ones ever heard of after having such a gay winter something going on every day and night _ to all at once have them all leave you cant think how dull it makes it. You might walk a mile now and hardly see a gentleman. It was very lively here just before commencement the Tuesday before [crossed out letter] there was a large party went out to Whitmore Lake for a sail. We had a perfectly splendid time sailing flirting etc got home safely quite late and just tired to death. I went with Mr Bidwell. We were so disappointed at your not coming out here commencement I wish you could have come. we all had a merry time we went in the morning and [crossed out] [evening] afternoon they all did finely. Aaron did very well indeed . I saw Dick Watts [illegible in original] and Todd but not to speak to them There were several young ladies here from Detroit that week we got quite well acquainted with them I liked them so much they were gay I assure you. My darling what is it you have to tell me? how I wish I could see [thee?] love when are you coming? Erville says you and her are coming sometime this summer. wont that be gay dont fail to come. We will have a time that will be just [all?] peaches come soon I cant tell when I can come to Adrian how I wish I could go now but I cant I am taking painting lessons and have just commenced a picture that I must finish as soon as [y] possible as [crossed out] [at] the picture belongs to a student that is the coppy _ I have finished one _. So Erville is flirting Wilts George Archibald is he fine looking? she writes me he has joined the army and is going as lieutenant what will she do when he is gone. Tell her as a consolation to think of her poor deserted friends in Ann Arbor. What are you going east for you witch? I suspect you old girl are you going to fool May – You had better not. Are you realy going in August I must see you before you go – You asked me if I received a picture you sent me of one of your boarders. Of course I did haven't I ever spoken of it I think he looks pleasant that is the one you were coming out here with. Kate and Flora are going up the lakes thursday to be gone sometime I wish I was going too but it seems that I am not.
