We believe that it will be time enough to forgive traitors who fought against the old flag, when they forgive patriots who fought for it. It will be time enough to embrace rebels as brethren when ‘they cease the mobbing of qoyal citizens. and. the lynching | of Union soldiers now going on. It will be time enough to proclaim peace when a Union Soldier can visit ie the graves of his comradess and the field of his victories, wearing the Union blue, and_car- ‘ae rying the old flag, secure from public violence and private assassination, without a padlock on his lips, or a cover over his loyal heart. We protest against rebels whom we have whipped in the field being constituted, by im- mediate restoration. to political power, our superiors at the ballot box. In reconstructing the Union we demand that a South Carolina rebel soldier’s vote shall not count twice as much as the vote of a Union Michigan soldier.
