#39 40 I send you five Dollars in this letter. S A Howe Stevenson Ala June 15th, / '64 Dear wife your letter or letters came to hand Mon- day and to-day is Wednesday I am well as usual and hope the same to you was sorry to hear you got so frightened at St. Johns I think that boy shrewd was very (?) srewd?) in answering the way he did I think if your wagon has not been greased since I left untill you went to St. Johns it must have got very dry you ought to have it greased a little oftener or else it will be spoiled. I kept the wrench in the reach because the bolt was so short it would work out I think when you got yourself all fixed up to scare the robber you must have looked very fierce but I think I should have known that it was not a man for all that. then Charley Baker is the man or [things?] not man that has been the source of so much trouble to Louisa well I think if I was in her place I would try and put him where the dogs would not bite him. if my master roll in Detroit says I was mustered Oct. 28th, 1863 instead of Oct. 23d 1863 I think you can claim the town County but Mr Winton will know if whether the bounty voted by the Town was voted for all recruits to fill the towns quota for that call of the president for 300,000 men. All men that enlisted after the 25th of Oct go to fill that quota. I think if you dont wash your face nor comb your hair nor change your clothes untill I get home I shall be greeted with the sight of a more formidable looking Object then you was when you came from St. Johns. but I think the prospect quite favorable for us all to be mustered out this fall. then I shall come home on double quick tell the little boys Pa is glad they have got some nice clothes and hats to keep till pa gets back and a nice feather for each. Pa is glad to get the kisses they send to. I think Mr. Creasinger is a little mistaken about the sheep there is no contract in writing about the sheep with him but with Solomon and he was permitted to act for himself by his father and you have the sheep in possession and if its is either way he cant claim any of the wool or lambs either but June 15th, '64 Sometime when you see Mr. Winton ask him. I dont think the paper I gave Sol would be considered a contract as the names of both parties are not signed to it it is merely a certificate showing that he let me have the sheep, if he should die in the army his heire could get them (a)gain when the three years are up. I Expressed a box of clothing to St. Johns in your name last Friday you had better send out by the mail for it J L Paine has got one Blanket and one overcoat and an old shirt his are the first in the top of the box they are all marked. John has 2 overcoats and one blanket and I have one overcoat and 2 blankets.
