Dear wife I sit down to write to you after a silence of ten days it has been very rainy here of late got a letter from you yesterday and one a week ago which was received with much joy for I had begun to think I should never hear from you again was very sorry to hear you was sick I think you miss it very much in doing so in having to do so much of the hard work yourself and you also (Miss) miss it in having boys int eh place of Men [illegible in original] Bassett Cant do as much in four days as a man will do in one dont try to do any more such work as wearying as wheat or hay I did not intend to chasten you about your letter if I called them elegant I meant excellent I am well as usual . The boys here are all quite well you say you fear . the hot weather will kill [illegible in original] Me. you know that I always liked hot weather I have never seen any hotter weather here than I have in Mich I had apple dumplings for dinner to day and eat till I like to busted do you know where that note is that William holds against me for that chopping I think that note had better be paid so to stop the interest I left 32½ bushels of wheat in the barn last fall you say you hope I will carry myself straight for our actions are well known there you say poor Mrs Daniels for there is enough to run and tell her and there is other women under the same curse well I dont know what you mean if Daniels is conducting himself disgracefull it is not known here and the one that has wrote such stuff home is a liar . not that I have any particular regard for him but I like to see people keep truth on their side . to day is ration day and I am a great hurry , please explain a little more about Mrs Daniels in your next I must stop for it is time to get supper I will try to do better next time .
