Dear wife I have just expressed my money
this morning the agent was out of Revenue Stamps
So I could not do it Sooner it is directed to
Mrs. Cindonia E P Howe St Johns Clinton Co.
Mich package contains ($160.00) one hundred
and sixty dollars you had better open the
package in the presence of Some one perhaps
you had better open it in the Express Office to
see if it is all right Some of the boys have had
their money taken out of the package after it was
put in. It is best to be on the safe side. I
did not pay the Express charges on it. I
think this letter will reach you before
you get started for the money I suppose 
the roads are so bad that it is most
impossible to go to St. Johns now. perhaps
you had better send some one for you the
jant will be most too hard for you
we are still at work here I heard yester-
day that Milton Pratt is stationed at Chatta-
nooga I think if I can find out what Reg &
Com he belongs to I shall get a pass and
go and see him I have kept Sixteen dollars
for my own use to speculate on I think I
can make it worth thirty to me by another

pay day and have enough to live on
besides I dont know of much to write
to fill up this sheet I think if all 
the men that are drafted will have to go from
that town you will get rid of your old friend
JH Lewis he is the only one of importance
that I have heard from in that town I

suppose the tixes will be very high this
fall I shall probably get paid again before
tax time this fall I should like to come
and bring my money myself and give you all
a good kiss but I shall suppose I shall have
to wait and trust in God to protect my
little ones at home and to bring me safe
through this war to enjoy the blessings
of my family and home. this is the prayer
