#65 Hd Qrs 3d Battalion 1st Mich Engrs Stevenson Nov 28th Dear wife I have looked in vain for a letter this Mail but feel in hopes I shall get one Friday. I have been very busy this Morning trying to get some Boxes of Goods and one Man to take charge of the same on the cars to Chattanooga but have not succeeded yet and have got to wait till four this after- noon I expect we shall move from here to night or to morrow morning we Expect to Stop at tullahoma but dont know for certain. Our troops left Decatur yesterday Burnt the place Before leaving – Huntsville is also Burnt and the report is that Sherman has captured Macon and Milledgeville Hood is trying to cut our Communication with Nashville but I dont think they will be able to do it. the Hunts- ville Road is of no importance to the Goverment I dont know of much to write at present I should like to see you all very much but dont Expect to see you this winter It begins to be a good while to wait but we must submit to the ways of Providence. I hope you will have good health and try and keep up your spirits I feel that if we trust in God he will carry us through the firey trials all safe and Sound John dont get any better of the Diarhea William is well and I am in as good health as I ever as in my life I think Southern Climate and Camp life agrees with me but you need not think that I shall lengthen my time one day without coming home first.
