Simeon has bittersweet feelings about General Robert E. Lee's surrender and General Joseph Johnston's forthcoming surrender because of Abraham Lincoln's assassination. Simeon says there are still skirmishes happening nearby and he fears the Confederates will turn to assassination and guerilla warfare in order to prolong the war.
