Simeon is worried that the money he sent Cindonia was lost in the mail, and he has not heard from her in two weeks to confirm or dispel his fear. There was a mistake in the payroll that cheated him out of seventeen dollars, but if he waits to get it corrected, he would not receive pay for another two to four months. He says he will accept his pay with the mistake in tact if Cindonia needs the money and he asks her to write him immediately. Additionally, Simeon details a soldiers' funeral he recently witnessed.
